16 Most Iconic Celebrity Couple Moments In Pop Culture History

People do strange things when they’re in love. Celebrities do even stranger things. When you mix good looks and lots of money with a splash of ego, anything can happen. And it does happen. There’s something about celebrity couples that fascinates us pop-culture nerds. We root for them, we judge unlikely pairings, we mourn their splits. While we kind of love the absurd antics of certain celebrity pairings, it’s even better when celebrity couples have a great sense of humor and don’t mind poking some fun at one another every now and again. Throughout the years, there have been plenty of great celebrity couple moments. Some sweet, some funny, some strange, but all great entertainment for us mere plebs. Check out our all-time favorite celebrity couple moments:

Brad Pitt’s guest appearance on Friends

Before there was Brangelina, there was Brad and Jen. In the late nineties and early aughts, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were Hollywood’s golden couple. The two biggest stars at the time got together to define what #CelebrityCoupleGoals really meant. So it was a BIG DEAL when Brad made a guest-star appearance on Jen’s show, Friends. But he wasn’t playing her love interest. In fact, his character was friends with Ross and Monica years ago, who, like Monica, lost a lot of weight as an adult. Brad and Jen’s characters clash because of the way she treated him in high school, and he was the co-founder of the “I Hate Rachel Green” club — with Ross! Seeing the two snipe at each other when you know they were in love IRL is classic.

“Is this tuna or is this chicken” on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica

It was the sentence that launched Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey into superstardom. Both had their own successful careers as musicians, but MTV had the brilliant idea of putting them together in a reality series. Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica premiered in August 2003, and in the very first episode, Jessica asked a question that would live on in pop-culture history: “Is this chicken, what I have, or is it fish?” She was of course referring to Chicken of the Sea tuna. Which… is… fish! Ah, Jess.

Lisa Marie and Michael Jackson kiss at MTV VMAs

During the 1994 MTV Music Video Awards, this unlikely pair tried to prove their love was real with an awkward appearance. The curtain lifted, and Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley walked out onstage together, holding hands. The two stood awkwardly for a good 30 seconds while the audience reacted. Michael brought the microphone to his lips to welcome the audience to the awards and continued by saying “Just think, nobody thought this could last,” before planting one on Lisa Marie. It didn’t last.

Ben Affleck’s cameo in Jenny from the Block

Before Ben and Jen version 2.0, there was Bennifer. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck dominated gossip magazines, clips on Entertainment Tonight, message boards, you name it. Their relationship was out there for all to see, thanks to the easily forgotten film, Gigli, and J.Lo’s “Jenny from the Block” video, where Ben made a hefty cameo. There were scenes with the two fake arguing at lunch, doing normal-couple things like pumping gas, and our all-time favorite, just hanging out on a yacht, with Ben fondling Jen’s butt. Normal couple stuff. Since then, we’ve seen several stars make appearances in their baes’ MVs – but this one really set the standard.

Portia’s first interview on Ellen

Ellen DeGeneres doesn’t hide her adoration for her wife, Portia de Rossi, on her daytime talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. So it was an extra special treat when Portia appeared on her show for the first time in 2009. The interview started off with Ellen making Portia take her heels off to prove that she’s not as tall as she appears. (Ellen is the taller one in the relationship.) The appearance also happened to be on the seven-month anniversary of their wedding, so Ellen naturally grilled her on what it’s like to be married to her. The answer is the sweetest, most adorable thing to be caught on film.

Kristen Bell and Dax’s Shepard’s “Africa” video

If there’s any Hollywood relationship we’re jealous of, it’s this one. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard look like they’re having fun all. the. time. When they went on a trip to Africa, they couldn’t just commemorate it with a normal scrapbook or Facebook photo album. Oh, no. These two went all out and created a full-length music video to Toto’s “Africa” and released it in 2016. To date, the video has nearly eight million views. The couple took the trip as one last hurrah before they had children. Now that’s one way to prepare for parenthood.

Chrissy Teigen Roasting John Legend on Twitter

Can we all just agree that ANYTHING this couple does is iconic? They are the literal definition of #goals and anytime either of them is in the news, we hurriedly click on the headline. That being said, we have the difficult challenge of picking just *one* iconic couple moment for these two. Our favorite is when Chrissy trolls John on social media and John just takes it because, well, he married her. Not too long ago, John tweeted his feelings about National Anthem purists, asking them if they can even sing it. The tweet was politically charged and on a serious issue, but that never makes it off limits to Chrissy. She shot right back with “settle down, you’re okay at it,” questioning John’s ability to sing the National Anthem himself.

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman starring together in Matilda

Anyone who’s seen Matilda knows that her parents are terrible. But when they’re played by real-life couple Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, there’s an added charm to their treacherousness. Matilda isn’t the only project they’ve done together. Danny and Rhea appeared in Taxi and an adorable Milk ad. Then they went on to break all our hearts when our fantasy parents announced their separation in 2012, then their reconciliation in 2013, followed by another separation announcement in 2017. Luckily, we will always have Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood to watch on repeat.

Angelina and Billy Bob’s matching blood vials

The Angelina Jolie/Billy Bob Thornton days were wild. We never knew what kind of stunts these two would pull next. From hanging all over each other on red carpets to getting tattoos of each other’s names, they always kept audiences entertained. Perhaps the wildest of all the Angie/Billy Bob stories is the one where they wore a vial of each other’s blood around their necks. Years later, Billy Bob clarified the story and the “vial” turned out to be a locket with each other’s blood smeared in it. Kind of like putting your kid’s photo in a locket, but with human fluids instead. Gross.

Tom Cruise jumping on that damn couch

It was supposed to be just another celebrity visit on Oprah‘s self-titled talk show, but Tom Cruise had other plans. We guess this is what happens when you’re an action star/Scientologist head-over-heels in love with a much younger woman. You’re like “Wow! I’m Tom Cruise! I’m promoting a movie about aliens and have a girlfriend 16 years younger than me. TIME TO GET ON THIS COUCH!” And that’s what happened, right in front of Oprah’s eyes. The outburst of ~*true love*~ made headlines everywhere and its anniversary is still being celebrated on the celebrity blog circuit every May 22nd. If that’s not iconic, what is?

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka’s Halloween costumes

Heidi Klum and Seal used to be the go-to celebrity couple for incredible Halloween costumes, until Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka had their twins, Gideon and Harper and totally stole the show. Since then, Halloween has become more than a holiday, it’s a countdown until the family reveals their costumes. Past costumes include characters from Batman, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and Toy Story. The best, however, was when they went all out with their Star Wars costumes with NPH doing a great Obi Wan.

Rihanna and Drake’s matching tattoos

For years, Rihanna and Drake have teased us with their relationship status. The on-and-off duo have proven their relationship is deeper than just an “are they, aren’t they.” The two proved this with matching camouflage shark tattoos. Apparently, the tattoo is a reference to one of the duo’s dates at an aquarium. Tattoo artist BangBang shared Rihanna’s ankle tattoo on his Instagram and Drake revealed his arm tattoo at a concert. Can’t these two just commit?!

Tom Hiddleston wearing an I Heart T.S. Tank

While we’re glad this public display of affection is over, it did give us the most ridiculous t-shirt moment in celebrity couple history. In 2016, Taylor Swift had a quick, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it fling with Tom Hiddleston. The coupling came immediately after the singer called it quits with Calvin Harris and they went from zero to 100 real quick – so quick, in fact, many thought the whole thing was a farce. During T. Swift’s favorite holiday, The Fourth of July, Tom was photographed wearing a t-shirt with the words “I Heart T.S.” written on it. That’s just… too… much.

Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan facing off on Lip Sync Battle

These two met while filming Step Up, so naturally one of their most iconic moments involves dancing. Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan went on Lip Sync Battle in 2016 and gave us one of the show’s most memorable moments. Jenna performed *as* Channing in Magic Mike, including some pretty nice drawn-on abs. But Channing’s special guest just may have made him the ultimate winner. While performing “Who Run the World (Girls),” a Beyoncé cameo left Jenna on the floor.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s albums about Jay’s infidelity

While most celebrity couple moments are iconic in a good way, this one’s a little bittersweet. Sweet, because we got some phenomenal music, bitter because the music was about cheating and losing trust/faith in your partner. Plus, it was all coming from one of our favorite celebrity power couples. (Who TF cheats on Beyoncé?!) Beyoncé‘s 2016 album Lemonade was an absolute force with its surprise release in 2016, and included beautiful imagery, genre-spanning tracks, and powerful lyrics. Beyoncé opened up about the cheating rumors. Then, Jay-Z put them to rest with his apology album 4:44 this year. While we definitely prefer Lemonade to Jay’s album – both kind of complement the other perfectly.

Britney and Justin’s matching denim outfits

This matching ensemble might be the most important thing to ever happen at the American Music Awards. (TBH, there hasn’t really been anything else memorable at the AMAs in general, but that’s beside the point.) The fact is, it’s been 17 years since Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake stepped out in matching denim outfits, and we are STILL talking about it. Hell, Katy Perry and Riff Raff recreated the iconic moment with their own matching denim ensemble. As far as couple coordination goes, these two are in the history books. Nobody can touch Britney and Justin’s denim look.
