16 Typical Leo Traits and What They Really Mean

It’s Leo season, hear us roar!

Leos, symbolized of course by the majestic beast that is a lion, are born between July 23 and August 22. A Leo is a sign of sun and fire, which makes sense since summer is hot hot hot.

Leos also have a reputation for being… fiery. While any true Leo is proud of their roar, we know that all of the classic Leo characteristics do have their downsides. But, as Leos, you won’t find us shying away from our loud personalities.

Just look how amazing celebrity Leos are: Jennifer Lopez, Mila Kunis, Daniel Radcliffe, Sandra Bullock, and of course Leo himself, Leonardo Dicaprio. You can bet none of them hate their lives in the spotlight.

Your astrological sign can symbolize many things: your values, personality traits, work style, romantic life, etc.. But what are the traits that make up Leos in particular? All of these wonderful things…and their not so wonderful flip sides. Even Leos can’t be loved all of the time.

16. Fierce = overbearing.

Obviously lions are fierce. They’re king of the jungle!. Outside of the animal kingdom, though, being fierce can come across as a bit… bossy. While there’s nothing wrong with being a “boss,” Leos occasionally have to tone down the “bossiness.”

15. Like to be the center of attention = egotistical.

Leos like to be the star of the show. They’re able to command the attention of any room they enter. Yet the concept that they “deserve” this attention more than others do can make them seem a little full of themselves.

14. Loyal = can hold a grudge.

Loyalty is one of a Leo’s strongest traits. While this is exactly what you want in a friend, it’s a hard thing to have in an enemy. To be honest, Leos tend to have a lot of enemies, too.

13. Action driven = impulsive.

Leos are ready to grab the bull by the horns and get things done. They are also known for doing this without considering the consequences.

12. Good leaders = controlling.

Power is well-suited for Leos. Except if it goes to their heads and they try to use it to control everyone instead of leading them.

11. Honest = can come across as cruel.

Honesty is the best policy, and Leos have it down. Unfortunately, it can come across as rude, harsh, or even cruel, and it can be hard for them to be sensitive to the feelings of others if it means being less than truthful.

10. Confident = cocky.

Wife of fellow Leo, Barack Obama says it all. But sometimes others — especially if they’re less confident themselves — perceive confidence as cockiness, which is less than complimentary.

9. Eager = impatient.

People who are up for anything tend to get bored when there isn’t anything for them to be enthusiastic about. Which leads to an impatience with the lack of excitement around them.

8. Outgoing = obnoxious.

Leos aren’t typically shy, in word or deed. For people who aren’t as outgoing — or for others competing for the attention — this can seem obnoxious or abrasive at times.

7. Passionate = emotional.

Leos do things boldly, including feel things; this can lead others to believe they can’t keep their emotions in check.

6. Social = can’t be alone.

Everyone enjoys the life of the party, which a Leo often is, but what happens when the party is over? Being so “on” around other people might suggest they’re less happy when alone.

5. Charming = shameless flirt.

Leos can charm the pants off just about anyone. Except “charming the pants off” can sometimes be taken too… literally.

4. Thrill seeker = risk taker.

“Caution” isn’t exactly a Leo’s first name. Which can be exhilarating and a little dangerous. “Go big or go home” tends to be a mantra that Leos often utilize.

3. Playful = can’t be serious.

If you want to lighten the mood, ask a Leo! But they can have trouble shifting into serious-mode when the situation calls for it.

2. Strong willed = stubborn.

Leos are anything but pushovers, which is generally regarded as a positive thing. Except when they refuse to compromise on anything and remain stubborn for the mere sake of it.

1. Energetic = tiresome.

To put it delicately, people can get irritated by a Leo’s endless energy and their force-of-nature persona. You know what I have to say to that? Rawr.
