Royal watchers might be experiencing Meghan mania at the moment following the engagement of Price Harry and Meghan Markle. However, that doesn’t mean our interest in Kate Middleton has waned — far from it, in fact. After all, the Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant with her and Prince William‘s third child and her maternity style is on point, as per usual.
Kate has always been flawless. From the tips of her glossy waves to her sensible-but-sophisticated midi heels — magnifique. And she knows how to dress her growing baby bump as well as she knows how to wear a tiara. You might say that this is because she is on her third pregnancy, but the Duchess has been slaying maternity style since she was pregnant with Prince George.
Scroll through the gallery to see 16 of Kate Middleton’s best maternity style moments so far.
16. Printed Dress, 2013
Think back to when the Duchess of Cambridge was pregnant with Prince George. This was one of her first maternity looks. She wore the patterned dress while visiting the Hope House Treatment Centre on February 19, 2013 in London, England. Can you see the beginnings of a baby bump? The wrap silhouette helped show off her changing shape.
15. Light Blue Dress, 2013
Let’s hear it for the Duchess’s ability to consistently deliver elegant maternity looks. Never once does she look like she’s suffering from a pinching waistband or swollen ankles. She looked stunning in this pale blue dress when she attended an evening reception at the National Portrait Gallery on April 24, 2013 in London, England. Some might be surprised at the shorter hem for the evening, but she totally pulled it off.
14. Peach Coat and Beige Dress, 2013
Kate has had a lot of amazing pregnancy moments, but this peach coat might be one of the most memorable. There’s just something about the pretty pastel paired with the beige dress. She wore the outfit back on April 29, 2013 to visit the Naomi House Children’s Hospice near Winchester, Hampshire, England. It has been four years and we are still obsessed with the look.
13. Yellow Tweed Coat and Fascinator, 2013
Yellow can sometimes be a divisive color, but we’re pretty sure everyone was in agreement that Kate killed it in this yellow tweed coat at the Garden Party in the grounds of Buckingham Palace hosted by Queen Elizabeth II on May 22, 2013. She brought out the ivory in the fabric with her fascinator, clutch and heels. There are a lot of different pieces in the look, but they all work together. It’s also hard to choose just one favorite part. Don’t make us.
12. Navy Dress, 2015
If Kate isn’t giving us coat inspiration, she is giving us dress inspo. This time, she wore a Madderson dress to open The Clore Art Room at Barlby Primary School in London, England on January 15, 2015. The navy dress would have been so chic on its own, but the contrasting tweed hem and flap pockets took it to another level. The dark tights and shoes helped make the frock appropriate for the colder weather.
11. Pastel Blue Coat, 2015
If you think that the secret to Kate’s maternity style is the fact that she doesn’t actually wear “proper” maternity clothes, that’s not exactly true. The Duchess experiments with different designers and labels. For the opening of the Kensington Leisure Centre in London, England, she wore a baby blue coat from maternity label Seraphine. The high waist helped show off her growing baby bump.
10. White Coat, 2015
Some people are scared of wearing anything white, but Kate clearly isn’t one of those people. The royal donned a Max Mara coat when she took part in an art project at the construction site of the new Ben Ainslie Racing headquarters and Visitor Centre in Portsmouth, England on February 12, 2015. Anyone who wears a white coat to any event is brave, but doing it to a construction site where there is an art project? The Duchess is very courageous along with being fashionable.
9. Soft Pink Coat with Hat, 2015
Hands up if you wished you had more occasions where you could wear a fascinator? You’re not alone. Lucky for Kate, she has plenty of situations where she can work a hat. Case in point: The Observance for Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in London, England on March 11, 2015. The Duchess was feeling a soft pink mood that day with an Alexander McQueen coat and Jane Taylor fascinator. Note the pretty pearl buttons on the coat.
8. Leopard Print Dress, 2015
Even people who aren’t normally fans of animal print will have to admit that Kate worked this leopard print dress. She was pregnant with her second child when she sported the long-sleeved frock on March 11, 2015 to visit the Turner Contemporary in Margate, England. The trapeze silhouette showed off her baby bump perfectly.
7. Navy Coat and Fascinator, 2015
Is there any color that Kate cannot pull off? It would appear not. Kate showed off her visible baby bump when she attended a service to mark 13 years of UK military operations in Afghanistan at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, England. She opted for a subdued navy blue color palette with a Beulah coat, heels, clutch and a fascinator tipped artfully to the side.
6. Deep Green Coat with Brown Hat, 2015
Kate had some great maternity style moments when she was pregnant with Princess Charlotte. This was one of them. The Duchess is known for dressing for a theme, but keeping things sophisticated. She did exactly that at the Irish Guards’ St Patrick’s Day Parade in Aldershot, England. Kate wore a custom Catherine Walker coat accessorized with a chocolate brown hat and a gold shamrock brooch for a little extra luck.
5. Bright Pink Coat, 2015
Kate might single handedly be responsible for making us wish that we had many more chic long coats in our wardrobes. On March 27, 2015 she and Prince William visited the Stephen Lawrence Centre, Deptford in London, England where she gave us major coat envy with this bright pink style. We’re pretty sure there has never been a coat that Kate doesn’t look good in.
4. Pale Pink Floral Dress, 2017
Look closely, and you will see that the soft pink dress is decorated with oversized flowers. You might have missed the detail because you were too busy looking for Kate’s tiny baby bump. Kate wore the sophisticated dress to attend the Charities Forum Event at Paddington Station on October 16, 2017, in London, England in the early stages of her pregnancy. In other photos from the event, you can catch a tiny glimpse of the bump.
3. Blue Blazer, 2017
Kate can do casual, formal and everything in between. This time, it was polished separates. The Duchess of Cambridge joined Prince Harry and Prince William at the Coach Core graduation ceremony on October 18, 2017 in London, England. She should definitely keep this double-breasted blazer on rotation post-pregnancy because it is amazing, especially when paired with a black turtleneck and skinny pants. Heck, we would totally wear this look RN — pregnant or not.
2. Shimmering Blue Evening Gown, 2017
Whoever said that maternity evening gowns are frumpy needs to retract that statement ASAP. The Duchess of Cambridge looked positively regal in this sparkling blue gown. She wore the stunner on November 24, 2017 to attend the Royal Variety Performance at the Palladium Theatre in London England. We’re sure some people might read into the pale blue color as a hint at the gender of the baby, but we’re happy just appreciating all of the embellishment and the sheer details.
1. Black and White Dress, 2017
This is one of Kate’s most recent maternity looks, and it’s already worthy of a spot on the list. She stepped out in a chic patterned dress to visit the Foundling Museum in London, England on November 28, 2017. It’s the sort of dress that you would want to wear whether you’re pregnant or not thanks to the contrasting white belt and cuffs. If we could get away with it, we would style the frock with a bouquet, too.
