With Halloween (kind of) just around the corner, you may have already started brainstorming this year’s Halloween costume. We’re right there with you. If you’re having trouble getting inspired, celebrities always know how to do Halloween right. Despite the fact that most of these celebs probably have an endless budget to spend on their costumes, plus an entire team of stylists and makeup artists, some of these looks are totally easy to recreate. Whether you’re looking for a Kardashian-approved sexier look, or something a little goofier (Check out Chrissy Teigen as Guy Fieri), we’re here to help you find some inspiration. That’s why we’ve compiled 18 of the most iconic celebrity Halloween costumes of all time.
1. Beyoncé and Blue Ivy As Salt N Pepa
We had to kick off this list with a Beyoncé Halloween look, seeing as she’s the undisputed champ of over-the-top costumes. Not only does she manage to come up with multiple, family-friendly costumes every year — they’re always crazy-accurate. Can you think of anything cooler than three generations of Salt N’ Pepa?
Beyoncé and Tina look like absolute queens, and Blue is looking like the most adorable female rapper we’ve ever seen. While their version is super accurate, this look would be pretty easy to re-create with some colorful leggings, a bright thrift store jacket, some sneakers and a funky hat.
2. Kylie Jenner As Christina Aguilera
Kylie Jenner went all out in her Christina Aguilera halloween costume. Kylie looks exactly like “Dirrty”-era Christina. If you follow Kylie on Snapchat, you probably got to experience this look as it unfolded, with no shortage of close-ups and music video-inspired dance moves. What made this costume so awesome was the attention to detail. The braided wig, color contacts, makeup and those pants/chaps things made this costume the perfect homage to everyone’s favorite Mickey Mouse Clubhouse star gone ~dirty~.
3. Heidi Klum as Jessica Rabbit
Heidi Klum is another celebrity who is well-known for her crazy-extra costumes. She outdoes herself every year with costumes that usually include hours of special effects makeup and a whole team of stylists. We think that this Jessica Rabbit Halloween costume proves just how dedicated Heidi is. Seriously, check out the amount of work that must have gone into an entirely-new face, jawline, pair of lips and fake boobs! You would never know that it was Heidi Klum was hiding under that wig if it weren’t for social media.
4. Heidi Klum as Whole Bunch of Heidi Klums
This was definitely Heidi’s best Halloween costume to date. While the outfit itself was super basic and fairly straightforward, Klum had to find her clones. Of course, one clone wasn’t enough — there had to be five of them. Each Hiedi lookalike had to wear prosthetics and a wig to make it as accurate as possible. While they may not look exactly like Heidi, the overall effect is super cool.
TBH, who wouldn’t take up an opportunity to walk around with a squad of six yous for a day?
6. Beyoncé and Jay Z as Barbie and Ken
In case you weren’t aware that Beyoncé is the epitome of perfection, this Barbie costume definitely proves it. This is another one of Beyoncé’s iconic family Halloween creations. The attention to detail and accuracy is what makes these costumes look almost creepily real. The sleek ponytail, furry jacket, pointy shoes and panty hose make her look so perfect it’s surreal.
Plus, seeing Jay-Z in a coiffed wig and cummerbund really drive the look home. And can we talk about how adorable Blue Ivy looks? She is absolutely killing it in those sparkly sneakers and tutu.
7. Allison Williams as Belle from Beauty and the Beast
While this is a relatively simple costume, we cannot get over how unbelievably similar Allison Williams looks to Belle from Beauty & the Beast. This would be super easy to recreate with the bright red lipstick, perfectly-curled ponytail and cartoonish fake eyelashes. Everything about her expression to her posture just screams Belle. We would honestly pay money to see a doe-eyed Allison Williams strolling through the subway station dressed as this Disney princess.
8. Shonda Rhimes as Beyoncé in “Formation”
UM… one legend dressing as another legend? We’re here for it. You always secretly hope that your favorite celebrities are friends, and this kind of proves it. As if Shonda Rhimes wasn’t amazing and powerful enough, she paid homage to another queen of entertainment with this wildly accurate Beyoncé costume. Plus, out of all of Beyoncé’s looks in the “Formation” video, this was probably the most iconic. If anyone was gonna dress as Beyoncé and do it right, Shonda was obviously the one.
9. Katy Perry as Hillary Clinton
Katy Perry went absolutely hard with this Hillary Clinton costume. TBH, the pantsuit, wig and jewelry would have made it pretty obvious which political figure Katy was supposed to be. But of course, Katy took it to the next level with special effects makeup to actually restructure her face to look exactly like the 2016 candidate.
Talk about wearing your political views on your sleeve. Another great part of this costume is the kind of unnecessary Svedka ad placement. Seeing Hillary Clinton kicking back with a strong martini definitely added some humor to this costume.
10. Neil Patrick Harris and his family as Star Wars Characters
Neil Patrick Harris is another absolutely dedicated celebrity master of Halloween. The best part about his costumes is that they always include the entire family. TBH they could all wear sheeta and dress up as ghosts and still be one of the most adorable families of all time, but this entire family’s level of Halloween extra-ness is something we can all aspire to achieve one day.
Obviously, the teeny Luke and Leia are the best part of this tribute to Star Wars, but Neil and husband David Burtka look pretty darn cute, too.
11. Chrissy Teigen as Guy Fieri
Chrissy, you never cease to amaze us. Everyone knows that Chrissy Teigen is pretty much the world-renowned queen of social media. She has the uncanny ability to be just as messy, ridiculous and goofy as the rest of us while somehow remaining the epitome of perfection. Basically, we all want to be her best friend.
If you weren’t convinced yet, this Guy Fieri costume will surely do the trick. Instead of capitalizing on her (obvious) beauty, Chrissy decided to take the goofy route and dress as everyone’s favorite mayor of Flavortown, Guy Fieri.
12. Beyoncé and Blue Ivy as Janet and MJ
Okay okay we KNOW Beyoncé is like, the majority of this list, but how could we not include this Halloween costume? The queen of pop paying homage to the king of pop = one of the greatest costumes of all time. While Beyoncé could have easily stolen the show with this Janet Jackson costume, it’s Blue Ivy’s Michael Jackson costume that truly takes center stage. Talk about mother-daughter goals. Blue Ivy’s tiny coat and loafers are enough to make us absolutely lose it.
13. Neil Patrick Harris and his family as Batman Characters
Neil Patrick Harris at it again with the absolutely on-point family Halloween costume. How do we apply to be adopted? Seriously though, Neil and David still manage to look stunningly handsome in their creepy Batman villain costumes, while daughter Harper and son Gideon save the day as tiny little nugget versions of B-Man and Robin. These lil’ heroes are totally guaranteed to grow up into the coolest kids ever. We can’t wait to see what this fam cooks up for Halloween this year.
14. North West as a lil’ skunk
While the grown-up Kardashians are usually the ones who get all the attention with their sexy, over-the-top costumes, baby North West went viral with this adorable Halloween costume. Kim went crazy uploading Snpachats and Instagrams of North in this little skunk onesie, and we are eternally grateful.
Seriously, the internet could not get enough of this skunk ensemble. Plus, Kim referring to her as “my little stinker”? If that didn’t absolutely make you totally squeal then you might have no heart (not to be dramatic).
15. Jessica Alba and Kelly Sawyer as Romy and Michele
This was SUCH a great throwback costume. A lot of people tend to go for the Cher from Clueless look when they think of iconic teen figures from the ’90s. Jessica Alba and friend, Kelly Sawyer totally nailed this look from Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion>. The duo looks nearly identical to Romy and Michele with their blonde hair and ridiculous (but still somehow sexy) shiny mini-dresses.
This would be a pretty great last-minute costume to throw together with your BFF, just give yourselves enough to find the perfect dress — they make the whole look!
16. Miley Cyrus as Lil’ Kim
Despite the fact that this costume came long before the beef between Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus at the 2015 VMAs, Miley’s homage to Lil’ Kim may have foreshadowed the event. The rivalry between Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj is no secret, but Miley may have inadvertently picked a side with this amazing tribute to one of the rapper’s most iconic red carpet looks.
Miley fully committed with the nipple pasty and lavender wig. The best part of this was Lil’ Kim’s stamp of approval, when she tweeted: “Awwww. Look at my baby @mileycyrus tonight!!! Looking GORGEOUS!!! I wish I was there to squeeze your boob.”
18. Katy Perry as a Cheeto
We had to finish off this list with what was not only Katy Perry’s best look, but probably the greatest Halloween costume we’ve seen in years. While the “Wide Awake” singer has always shown her affinity for silly Halloween costumes, they all pale in comparison. This costume shows next-level dedication to the Hallow’s Eve spirit that is pretty awe-inspiring. Not only does she look absolutely ridiculous, we imagine getting around from party to party (not to mention going to the bathroom) must have been nearly-impossible in this human-sized Cheeto ensemble.
If anyone was able to capture any pix of Ms. Perry out in a club while wearing this, we’re interested.
