16 Celebrity Couples Who Are NOT Married

There are a lot of common misconceptions about celebrity couples. For example, that Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon met on the set of Cruel Intentions (they met at her birthday party beforehand). Or that the reason behind pretty much every one of Jennifer Aniston‘s breakups was because she didn’t want to have kids. Another thing people are constantly getting wrong about Hollywood? Which couples are actually married.

A lot of the time when a celebrity couple has been together for a long time, we just start to assume they made it down the aisle at some point during their spanning relationship – but a lot of the time, we’d be wrong.

16. Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick

Perhaps the most iconic couple of all the Kardashians, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick started dating in 2006 after they met at a house party (seems fitting, doesn’t it?). From 2006 to 2017, their relationship was pretty rocky. If you watched Keeping Up With the Kardashians, you’ll know that they fought quite a bit and seemed to separate often. However, they still had three kids together before their final split in early 2017 — Mason, Penelope, and Reign. These cuties are 8, 6, and 3, respectively. Even though their parents never tied the knot, they still seem to be living the life. Scott is now dating Sofia Richie, and Kourt is dating a model named Younes Bendjima.

15. Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham

Of course, Oprah Winfrey doesn’t need a marriage to have a strong and stable relationship. She and her beau, Stedman Graham began dating in 1986. In 1989, they faced some rumors that Stedman was cheating on her, but they turned out to be false and the couple weathered through. They ended up getting engaged and then calling off the wedding in 1992, before moving in together in Chicago a few years later. Although she was asked frequently about the ended engagement, she never addressed it. The two are still together over twenty years later which makes them living proof that commitment is in the heart and not on paper.

14. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell met in 1968 while filming The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band when Goldie was 21 and Kurt was just 16. However, it would take years for these two to reconnect and start a relationship. In the meantime, they both married other people and had children. The couple met again at auditions for Swing Shift in 1983, and they finally decided to go on a date that kickstarted a relationship that lasted three decades. They had one son together, who also became an actor. Despite rumors that they split up in 2017, they are still going strong together (and those rumors were quickly squashed by Goldie’s daughter Kate Hudson who shared photos of them still very much in love).

13. Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga

Do you ever just look at Jennifer Hudson and think she is the epitome of a strong, independent woman who doesn’t need any man? Same. Maybe that’s why she never married long time partner David Otunga. Although they were engaged within a year after they met, they never quite got around to the wedding plans. They did, however, have a son together during the decade-long engagement. Despite questions about their refusal to move forward, she insisted that they were happy together. In 2017, the singer filed a restraining order against her fiancé for alleged domestic violence. He was eventually cleared of all charges, but this marked the end of their engagement, and their relationship.

12. Shakira and Gerard Piqué

Together for eight years, Shakira and Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué have quite the love story. They first met at the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. Like many of the couples on this list, they’ve faced breakup rumors in the past, but they’ve always been quick to shut them down. They have two children together, who are 4 and 2. The cutest part about their relationship — besides the strength of staying together for so long because, goals — is that they’re always showing each other and the world how much they love the other. From embraces on stage to kisses behind the scenes at award shows, there’s never a moment where these two are not passionately proclaiming their love. Honestly, that’s all they need.

11. Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins

As with many movie star couples, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins met on the set of the film Bull Durham in the ’80s. Unlike some of the other relationships on this list, Sarandon was open in interviews about their decision not to marry and assured it had nothing to do with doubts about their relationship. They were together for over two decades and had two children before they split up in 2009. Since then, they’ve remained friends and have even been spotted sharing dinners together with family and friends. Peaceful, civil breakups are always the best for everyone involved, so we’re happy that these two were lucky enough to have that.

10. Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy

So, the relationship between Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy was a bit unconventional. They met before filming Woman of the Year in 1942 and went on to make nine movies together until Spencer’s death in 1967. They also had a relationship during that time, which many knew about. They never made anything official or tied the knot because Spencer remained married to his wife throughout this time. Even though Katharine didn’t publicly acknowledge the affair until after Spencer’s wife died in 1983, it was pretty common knowledge. A few years before Spencer died of heart problems, Katharine even moved in with him to take care of her man. Katharine was famously independent, so many speculate this is why she didn’t care much about publicly defining the relationship.

9. Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton

These two are both known for their peculiar personalities, so nobody batted an eye when they began dating in the early 2000s. They met on the set of Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes remake and Helena Bonham Carter starred in it. Throughout the next 13 years, they would make nine movies together. They had two kids together, and according to Helena, they lived in adjoining houses during their relationship. In 2015, they split up, which everyone was sad about considering how well they work together. However, more than sad, many were shocked that they could break things off so easily and finally realized that they were never married.

8. Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy

Kate Hudson’s mom, Goldie Hawn, has one of the most famous never-married relationships in Hollywood, so it isn’t shocking that she’d take after her mom in this department. She started dating Matt Bellamy, guitarist for the band Muse, in 2010, and they had a son the next year. In 2011, they also became engaged, but left marriage off the table for the next three years until they broke things off in 2014. Even though they publicly announced the split, they made sure the world knew they would try to rebuild their relationship for their son.

7. Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber

After they first met at the Met Gala in 2005, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber quickly began dating. They were often regarded as one of Hollywood’s most stable couples, despite the fact that they were never married. In 2006, they starred in a film together called The Painted Veil, and in 2007, they had their first child together. Over the next seven years, they didn’t seem to care about societal pressures to get married and continued to live life together. In 2016, they announced that they were splitting up after eleven years together, which came as a surprise to many in Hollywood. As such a stable couple, many were sure we’d see them tie the knot at some point.

6. Anna Kournikova and Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova are another couple who have remained relatively private about their 17-year relationship. They started dating in 2001 after Anna starred in his music video, and they are almost never seen in public together, very rarely posting photos of each other on social media either. Although they don’t talk about their relationship much, Enrique made it clear in a 2012 interview that they had no plans to marry. Of course, they’ve faced rumors of engagement and breakups over the years, but nothing has ever stuck since they always manage to use a public appearance to dispel them. In 2017, they finally welcomed children — twins Lucy and Nicholas.

5. Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm might take on the role of a player quite a bit in his films and TV shows, but for a while it seemed like only Jennifer Westfeldt would truly steal his heart. They met at a party in LA in the late ’90s, and reconnected while running lines together for a film audition. As they both rose to fame, they made sure to present each other opportunities in their respective projects and were always seen hand-in-hand on red carpets. They were together for 18 years before they announced that they’d split in 2015. Even though they didn’t last forever, 18 years is basically a lifetime in Hollywood.

4. Jane Fallon and Ricky Gervais

If 18 years is a lifetime in Hollywood, we wonder what 36 years would be. That’s how long Jane Fallon and Ricky Gervais have been dating. The pair met in college in 1982, and they have been dating ever since. They survived a cramped flat in London after graduation and each other’s growing success as their careers took off. Through all of it, their relationship remained strong. Even after three decades, Ricky has said he still doesn’t believe in putting a ring on it. They may not be married, but it seems like nothing can break up this iconic Hollywood couple.

3. Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff

Actress Lena Dunham and singer Jack Antonoff met on a blind date in 2012. Despite Jack’s tour schedule with the band Bleachers and Lena’s Girls filming schedule, they made it work. They moved in together around 2014, and were together for five years before calling it quits. They made it clear that marriage wasn’t on the table for them until same sex marriage was legal in all 50 states. Unfortunately, they never made it down the aisle and the pair split in 2017.

2. Bo Derek and John Corbett

These two have been in a relationship since 2002 and were actually set up by a Hollywood agent when John Corbett didn’t have a date to an Oscars party. The rest is history, because he and Bo Derek hit it off. They’ve made it nearly 16 years without exchanging rings, which they insist is unnecessary for their relationship. They’ve hardly suffered at all from senseless rumors about splitting up and infidelity – a true testament to how adored their relationship is by Hollywood.

1. Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling

Are you as shocked as we were to find out that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes were never married? The couple first started dating in 2011 when they were spotted together at Disneyland (that’s the best place to fall in love, duh). In 2012, they even starred in a movie together, called The Place Beyond the Pines. They also have two daughters together who they usually keep out of the spotlight. We don’t know much about their relationship because they keep their personal lives pretty private. However, we do know that they are still together and thriving, despite nasty rumors that circled in 2017 that they had split up.
