17 Celebrities Who Don’t Believe In Getting Married

Everybody loves celebrity weddings. Somehow, they seem to have even more magic than a regular wedding thanks to the A-list guest lists, paparazzi photos and the public love stories. But, that doesn’t mean all stars are into weddings. There are a number of celebrities who have been open about not buying into the concept of marriage. There are some who have changed their minds eventually, but there are other stars who are pretty adamant about their anti-marriage feelings. Don’t go confusing that with celebs who are against monogamy and love the single life, because some of the stars on the list are in long-term relationships that give anyone inspiration.

It seems that Jon Hamm was impacted by his parents’ divorce when he was young. The former Mad Men star explained to Playboy, “My parents got divorced when I was two and never remarried. So it doesn’t mean anything to me. I don’t mean to say that it shouldn’t mean things to other people. I’m not judging it one way or another.” He also said to Parade in 2010, “I don’t have the marriage chip.” In 2015, he split from longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt after dating since 1997.

She might be constantly asked about when and if she will get hitched with Kurt, but she doesn’t appear to feel the need. She explained, “A lasting relationship isn’t about marriage. She “consciously uncoupled” from Michael over Christmas 2017. She later made it clear that she had no intentions of it, period. In 2014, she tweeted after rumors surfaced that she was going to tie the knot with Jimmy. “Just read that I wanna get married which is hilarious [because] I will never get married. Why would I want the [government] involved in my love life? Ew. It’s barbaric.”

And after experiencing all that and seriously thinking about marriage, I respectfully reserve a table for one in the restaurant of life.”

6. Scott Disick

We are very happy as we are and I never have a good question for this answer,” she said. “I feel like close to five years in Hollywood, it’s like, aren’t we married already really? There’s no paper that will make you stay.” In an interview about her “liberating” split from Joshua, she said, “I just want to be present in my life and not try to project so much into the future…Being too comfortable freaks me out, so I like the idea of doing new things…I think life’s better with somebody holding your hand, but I’ve also learned that I need to take care of myself first. In the past, I’ve been incredibly disappointed in people. You think you’re moving toward the same goal, and then you’re not.” Do you, girl!

11. Eva Mendes

Have you ever wondered why Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes aren’t married? Eva’s thoughts on marriage could have something to do with it. “I’m not like anti-marriage or the institution, like for other people. And I love the idea of a union — that’s all very beautiful. But I think, you know, it’s a very old-fashioned, archaic kind-of-thing. We did it for land originally. How unromantic is that?” she said during a Chelsea Lately interview in 2011. “I actually think it’s really sexy to be with someone in your 50s and 60s and be like, ‘That’s my boyfriend.’ I think husband and wife is just… very unsexy.” She and Ryan are pretty much the sexiest people in the biz, so she’s probably onto something.

12. Diane Keaton

15. Kourtney Kardashian

We’ve heard what Scott Disick thinks about marriage, now it’s time to hear what the mother of his three children, Kourtney Kardashian, thinks. Speaking about her split from Tim in 2010, the actress said, “I’ve always liked the idea of choosing to be with somebody. I thought that if you didn’t get married you wouldn’t take each other for granted as easily. I don’t know if after twenty-something years that was still true.”

17. Evangeline Lily

Evangeline Lily is another one who has been married before, then changed her tune on the whole ordeal. She was briefly married from 2003 to 2004. The actress dated Lost costar Dominic Monaghan for five years before getting together with partner Norman Kali in 2010. About the idea of the two of them getting married, the actress has said, “Every other 16-year-old girl wanted to look at bridal magazines; I could not have been more bored with the notion.” She added that she might consider marriage for logistical and government situations but “emotionally, neither of us really feels the need for it. We love each other today, and we hope we’ll love each other tomorrow. In my world, I don’t believe in forever promises. I don’t think it’s realistic.”
