Hosting a really great party is truly a talent. Anyone can invite some friends over and get a few bags of chips, but making a special event takes hard work, and a lot of money. We know that lots of celebrities love partying, but which ones like hosting the events? Some of these stars might surprise you. Some throw major charity events every year, while others just like to have a crazy birthday or holiday party. You might be content with some free stuff on your special day, but these stars are dropping major cash for their perfect nights.
Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum is famous for being a supermodel and the host of Project Runway, but her Halloween parties are almost as iconic as she is. Heidi has been hosting the A-list Halloween party for years, and her costumes are no joke. One year she went as an old woman, and she was completely unrecognizable in the old age makeup. Another year, she went as Jessica Rabbit, and the prosthetics on her face and body were a truly shocking transformation. Halloween is a great excuse for a party, and Heidi is the Queen of Halloween.
Elton John
Legendary singer Elton John began his AIDS Foundation in 1992, and every year since then, he’s hosted a lavish Oscar viewing party as a fundraiser. It’s usually a who’s who of the biggest stars who aren’t actually at the Oscars. Major stars like Mariah Carey and Caitlyn Jenner have attended in recent years, and it’s one of the biggest philanthropic events on the Hollywood calendar. In addition to the Oscars parties, Elton John hosts multiple other charity events each year, all with the aim of attracting donors with deep pockets. Everyone loves parties, and Elton John has done an excellent job of raising money from these events.
The Hemsworth Family
For some families, throwing great parties is just a way of life. Luke Hemsworth, the oldest brother, once threw his wife a gold-themed birthday party, complete with a life-sized golden horse statue. The entire family, including Miley Cyrus, showed up in wacky gold outfits to celebrate. Chris Hemsworth usually throws a New Years Eve party, always with a costume theme. One year was Hippie New Years, and another was Wild Wild West. Chris actually found himself in hot water for dressing as a Native American to that party, which he later apologized for on social media.
Naomi Campbell
I love a celebrity who goes all out for their own birthday. Of course, it can seem a little selfish, but ultimately it ends up being fun for everyone involved. For her 36th birthday, supermodel Naomi Campbell spent over a million dollars on her extravaganza in Dubai. She rented out the entire luxury Burj Al Arab hotel, where guests were invited to a three-day celebration. One day was all-white themed, while another night was marked with a Brazilian samba party. All of this is incredibly extra, but it sounds pretty fun.
David Beckham & Victoria Beckham
David and Victoria Beckham definitely love a good party, and they’ve thrown a few major ones. For David Beckham’s 40th birthday, they flew guests to Marrakech, Morocco, and it looked like a great time. All of the Spice Girls were in attendance, as well as plenty of other stars. They also threw a big party for their daughter Harper’s first birthday, which reportedly cost a whopping $250,000. I’m pretty sure my first birthday party cost less than $250 if I even had one.
Kim Kardashian
Like pretty much everything in her life, Kim Kardashian like to pull out all the stops when it comes to parties. How could we forget her massive wedding to Kanye West? They had their rehearsal dinner at the Palace of Versailles, then flew all the guests to Florence the next day for the wedding. That’s insane! For her daughter North’s first birthday, she threw an elaborate “Kidchella” party, complete with a working Ferris wheel in her backyard. That’s just not normal.
Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell got famous for being the mean judge on American Idol, but it sounds like he likes to let loose sometimes. For his 50th birthday, he had two separate events, both way over the top. First, he treated close friends to a week-long vacation in Miami, which sounds pretty expensive. From there, they took a private jet to England, where 400 guests waited at a country mansion. I don’t even know 400 people, so this is hard to imagine. Maybe some eliminated Idol contestants provided the entertainment?
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is known for her squad of A-list friends, and no one can get famous people at their parties like she can. In 2016, she threw the world’s most Instagram-able 4th of July party at her beach house in Rhode Island. Attendees included Cara Delevingne, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. She also had a major party for her 25th birthday, where the guest list included Beyoncé and Jay Z, Selena Gomez, and Justin Timberlake. How can I get invited to one of these things ASAP?
Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson is definitely one of the more surprising entries on this list. Robert likes to keep his life private most of the time, but we know about at least one big party that he hosted. A few years ago, not long after his breakup with Kristen Stewart, he hosted a big Great Gatsby-themed party at his house. Guests were required to wear flapper dresses and suits, and there was live music. Sometimes throwing a party is just the thing you need to get over the sting of a failed relationship.
Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus is all about having a good time, so it makes sense that she likes throwing parties. In 2017, she threw her hubby Liam Hemsworth a birthday party with a pretty unconventional theme: marijuana. The venue had a weed bar (sponsored by Snoop Dogg), and there were also giant silver balloons that read “#BESTPARTYEVER.” Miley has since said she’s stopped smoking weed, but that must have been after this party was over. Whether you like Miley or not, she never makes predictable choices.
Prince William & Kate Middleton
How could we forget the wedding of the century? When Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011, it was a major news story all around the world. People lost their minds over the fairytale wedding, which reportedly cost more than $20 million. Maybe they didn’t have much choice in how big the wedding was, but it was incredible. Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle is sure to be similarly spectacular, and also quite expensive. The Spice Girls are reportedly performing, so it might even top the earlier wedding.
Chrissy Teigen
In the last couple years, Chrissy Teigen has become one of the most relatable celebrities, but sadly we don’t all get invites to her birthday. For her most recent birthday, she threw a Pan-Am themed party, dedicated to the jet-setting life of the retro ’60s. Guests were seated on a fake airplane, and the party staff were dressed like the iconic Pan-Am flight attendants. Even the magazines in the seat backs were from the right time period. Kim and Kanye were in attendance, and Chrissy looked like she had so much fun.
Kris Jenner
Kim isn’t the only Kar-Jen family member who likes to throw down. In fact, all of the ladies in the family like to throw big parties, but I’m shouting out matriarch Kris Jenner. For her big 60th birthday milestone, she celebrated with a huge Great Gatsby party (it’s a popular theme). Kris looked great in a white dress, and she left the party passed out in the back of her car. Sounds like she had a good time! She also threw some major parties for Kendall and Kylie Jenner over the years, including Kylie’s Sweet 16, where she was serenaded by Drake. The Jenners don’t play.
Kate Moss
Kate Moss is another supermodel who treats her birthday like serious business. For her 40th birthday, she reportedly partied for 100 hours straight, taking her guests on a whirlwind four-day adventure. Two days in London were followed by a trip to Kate’s country home, where they had a music festival themed sleepover. There, guests were entertained by fortune tellers, fire breathers, and a late night rave before sleeping in tents. Honestly, I’m tired just from reading about this party, so I really can’t imagine being there.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé seems like a pretty responsible parent most of the time, but that doesn’t mean she can’t spoil her kids a little bit. For Blue Ivy’s first birthday party, Bey and Jay allegedly dropped a cool $200,000. Half of that budget was reserved for the pink and white roses that decorated the party, which is pretty jaw-dropping. Beautiful flowers are always great, but I could live for two years on that much money. For Beyoncé’s 35th birthday, she threw a huge Soul Train-themed party, and everyone wore their best ’70s getups.
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton‘s 21st birthday is an occasion that will go down in history for pop culture lovers. Our favorite heiress celebrated being legal with five consecutive parties in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Tokyo, and London. She spent a reported $75,000 on EACH GUEST for the insane travel schedule, so hopefully, it was all worth it. I’m not sure anyone has ever had a birthday more extravagant than that. To top it all off, Paris had a birthday cake with 21 tiers. Gotta love that attention to detail.
